Buye Mother's Union Distributes More Medical Cards to Seniors and Children

Buye Mother's Union Distributes More Medical Cards to Seniors and Children

The Buyé Mother's Union distributed medical cards to seniors and children the week of July 12, said the Rev. Dominique Ciza, Buyé diocesan secretary, in an email message to Edmonton diocesan synod-secretary/treasurer the Rev. John Gee.

“I hope this finds you well, and that preparations for the consecration of the new bishop are going as expected. We are very busy with preparations for the installation of Archbishop Sixbert (as Primate of the Anglican Church of Burundi on August 21, 2021). We need your prayers indeed,” said Ciza.

Although the pandemic prevented parishes from hosting in-person coffee/hospitality-hour, many were still able to raise funds to help vulnerable people in Buyé diocese access medical care.

A $5 donation provides a full year of medical coverage (at 80%) for women, seniors and children under 18, who would otherwise not be able to afford healthcare.

TYP Top Bakery Youth Social Enterprise Winding Down Operations

TYP Top Bakery Youth Social Enterprise Winding Down Operations

Diocesan outreach youth coordinator Clark Hardy announced on social media this week that “with a lot of sadness” TYP TOP Bakery is winding down its operations.

“Over the past year we were so grateful to receive a series of grants that enabled us to keep our youth employed throughout some of the worst parts of the pandemic,” said Hardy, founder and director of the Edmonton diocese’s Trinity Youth Project (TYP) . “However, our funding has run out, and we also had to find a new kitchen space. We were exploring a few possibilities for partnerships with other organizations but, ultimately, these haven’t worked out.”

TYP TOP Bakery is a social enterprise baking employment program that comes alongside vulnerable youth who have been marginalized. During the COVID-19 pandemic, TYP TOP helped meet the food security needs of youth through church outreach meal programs, such as the Manna Market at All Saints’ Cathedral; and the takeaway community lunches provided by the PrayerWorks ministry at St. Faith’s.

Education for Ministry (EfM) Fall Registration Deadline Extended

Education for Ministry (EfM) Fall Registration Deadline Extended

Do you have questions about your faith? Education for Ministry (EfM) was developed by the School of Theology in Sewanee, Tennessee to provide a mechanism for people to work through their questions. This four-year course of study provides the framework, through reading and discussion (no exams), to connect your faith to your daily life:

  • Year One is a study discussion of the Hebrew Scriptures;
  • Year Two is a study of the Christian Testament;
  • Year Three is the history of the Christian Church;
  • Year Four is spent dealing more specifically with various theological views and helping each student discern their personal theology as revealed by study, reflection, and prayer.

Group members and trained mentors will meet via Zoom once a week, September through May, to for an opportunity to articulate their faith and shape it into action.

For detailed information about the program and to register for the fall session, go to the EfM Canada website at www.efmcanada.ca. Please email local mentor June Miller for more information. BROCHURE

Get to Know the Community of Frog Lake

Get to Know the Community of Frog Lake

The bus is full but you can still come!

Fred Matthews, member of the Edmonton diocese's Indigenous ministries team and lay reader-in-charge of Church of the Nativity, Frog Lake, has organized a bus trip for members of the diocese to visit the Frog Lake National Historic Site, followed by Day 2 of the Frog Lake Pow Wow on Saturday, August 7. The bus is full now! But it is possible to travel in your own vehicle in convoy with the bus, as long as everyone arrives together at the Historic Site, where Fred has arranged for the group to meet with an elder to hear the story of Frog Lake First Nation.

Fred will provide a map and a "Beginner's Pow Wow Survival Guide" with tips on what to bring and what to expect. There will be food vendors on site for those who want to sample traditional Indigenous food instead of packing a lunch. Masks will be required on the bus and everyone is encouraged to wear an orange shirt. Clergy are encouraged to wear their collars under an orange shirt.

For just $25, you can cover the costs for someone else to be vaccinated and multiply the gift you were blessed to freely receive.
