Say Yes! to Kids and Support Diocese of Edmonton Children's Choir
In its inaugural season, The Anglican Diocese of Edmonton Children’s Choir, directed by conductor Laura Hawley, and supported by a 2021 Say Yes! To Kids grant from the Anglican Foundation of Canada (AFC), became a burgeoning music ministry for children and youth in grade 2 and up. This free, inclusive choir makes sure that all children can grow in faith and musicianship. "My seven-year-old Cora was so excited for choir each week. Choir helped cement existing friendships and create new ones -- when we visited another church in the diocese, she happily pointed out her "buddy" from choir! These kid-to-kid connections are so valuable to keeping her engaged with church." - Jamie Hurlburt
At present upwards of 15 young choristers from parishes across the diocese share their enthusiasm and vocal talents during worship services and liturgical events. As choir members enrich our worship with their voices, they learn musicianship, leadership and perseverance. The choir is planting seeds for a long-term Anglican community by creating a space where young people build relationships in a fun, welcoming environment. We invite you and your church community to give to the Say Yes! to Kids campaign and help make our diocesan children’s choir a sustainable part of our worship life in the Diocese of Edmonton. To help us spread the word, please include this link (https://www.canadahelps.org/s/nEGAvJ), the attached graphic and a brief description of the Say Yes! to Kids fundraising campaign for the Diocesan Children’s Choir in your church bulletins, and share on social media. Travels with Remembering the Children Weaving
From February to May this spring, the Remembering the Children weaving has been to three urban and rural parishes. As you will remember, the weaving was created by nearly 100 participants, from churches across the Edmonton diocese, in the spring of 2022. Lines were prayerfully woven in remembrance of children who went to and died at Residential Schools. Since the weaving was dedicated on Indigenous Peoples Day in 2022, it has been hosted by many parishes. Immanuel, Wetaskiwin’s Reconciliation Team hosted the weaving on Sunday, February 5, when the parish celebrated the Presentation of the Lord. They invited the drummers and singers of Maskwa Ridge to sing honour songs for the children. The congregation responded with love and tears. The weaving then travelled with Fiona Brownlee of the Edmonton diocese’s Indigenous Ministries team to Holy Trinity, Edmonton for Sunday, March 5. Assisted by parish lay reader Wynne Whitten-Holmes, she unrolled the weaving while reciting the numbers of children as they went down the aisle. The weaving was placed over the pulpit and in front of the chancel and they invited people to come and touch it after they had received communion. The 8th Canadian Forum on Inter-Church Dialogues (CFICD) will be presented by the Canadian Council of Churches, in partnership with the Prairie Centre for Ecumenism and the Canadian Centre for Ecumenism, June 8-10, at All Saints’ Anglican Cathedral. The conference calls us into a deeper understanding and appreciation of the wisdom, gifts, and experiences that Indigenous followers of Jesus can offer the ecumenical movement. Too often, their voices have been absent from official Canadian ecumenical dialogues.

Starting at the Beginning an Introduction to the Christian Faith
Many people in today’s world have at best a "photo album" impression of the Christian faith: lots of snapshots and highlights, but no overview of the whole Christian story and how we are invited to participate in it. Starting at the Beginning is written to give that overview. What is the big story the Bible tells? Who is Jesus, and why is he important? Why is the Christian message called ‘the good news’? How can I become a Christian, and how can I grow in my faith? What does daily Christian living actually look like, in terms of prayer and Bible reading, participating in the church, learning the way of love and generosity, and making a difference in the world? There are just a few spots left for the 2023-24 school term for affordable community living for Christian students close to downtown Edmonton. Christ Church Mosaic (120th St and 102 Ave) is a house next door to Christ Church parish, where six young adults from various parts of the country live out their faith and their lives together. Attending a variety of schools and programs, these young people form an intentional Christian Community during the school year. Living as housemates, these residents work together to decide the “rule of life” that will shape their common experience over the course of the year. Supported by Christ Church Parish in their spiritual journey, Mosaic residents gather twice a month with parish volunteers to engage in Bible study and discussion.
