DIOCESAN APPOINTMENTS
|
Newly Appointed Executive Archdeacon to Engage with Church Locally, Provincially and Nationally
Bishop Stephen London is pleased to appoint the Rev. Canon Dr. Scott Sharman as Executive Archdeacon of the Diocese of Edmonton. “It is a great honour to be called to serve the saints in the church of Edmonton, and in the other places my travels have led me. I am so grateful for all the gifts and wisdom that our diocesan family has shared with me to help form me into who I am…” says Sharman. Going back more than 20 years, the Edmonton diocese has had an Executive Officer/Executive Archdeacon. However, that role has been vacant for the last 3 years, and many of the duties that this office used to carry have been reassigned to other members of the Synod Office staff, including Treasurer and Synod Secretary the Rev. John Gee; Synod Office Administrative Assistant RJ Chambers, and Executive Assistant Sarah Kemp. As Executive Archdeacon, Sharman will engage on behalf of the diocese in certain kinds of consultation and collaboration at the provincial and national levels of the Anglican Church of Canada (ACC).

Bishop Stephen London to Lead Rememberance Service in Jasper
Bishop Stephen London invites members of St. Mary's and St. George's Anglican Parish and the Jasper community to join him for a remembrance service at the corner of Miette Avenue and Geike Street in Jasper on Sunday, October 13 at 10 am. People are welcome to join a prayer circle which will be located outside the fenced-off property near the church sign which was spared when wildfire burned down 358 structures (homes and businesses). The July fire consumed nearly everything on the church property, including the church, hall, rectory, and even the bell. “We will invite people to pray what’s on their hearts and minds, and sing with us acapella-style,” he says. Bishop Stephen will be joined by the Rev. Prowse, St. Mary's and St. George's honourary assistant who was ordained in the Jasper Anglican Church when he finished seminary. He had been evacuated to Valemount, B.C. along with many other Jasper residents, and has since been living with his sister in Edmonton and worshiping at All Saints’ Cathedral. You can read more about the history of the iconic church building based on a blueprint for a 14th-century English Gothic church, on the Jasper Anglican Church Facebook page |

Make a Joyful Noise; Music of the 'Other' Choir with Dr. Joy Berg
St. Thomas Anglican Church, in Sherwood Park, sponsored a wonderful learning session with Dr. Joy Berg on Saturday, September 28. We welcomed 30 attendees from our parish, as well as from around the Edmonton area, to "Make a Joyful Noise!" The 90-minute session was full of historical context, vocal technique learning, notation understanding, harmonic stylings and singing together. Berg led us on an interesting romp through our music history! We learned so much about the development of our sacred music, the history surrounding changes in styles and text and about the amazing musicians and poets that created our beloved hymns of the past and present.
