Finding Our Way

Finding Our Way

GOAL #3: Formation

Bishop Stephen London has released the document Finding Our Way as a blueprint for guiding the Diocese of Edmonton into the future. It begins with the Gospel at the Center and includes five Principles and 12 Goals. This week, we highlight Goal 3: Formation.

We will re-animate programs that serve the ongoing spiritual growth of children, youth, and adults of all ages, and will seek to support all members of our diocese in embracing their own call to ministry through spiritual gifts discernment, opportunities for mentored experience, and pathways of educational formation.

Watch for specific actions and milestones which will be developed in regard to this goal.

Northern Adventure!

Northern Adventure!

God provides for Team from Edson to lead On Eagle's Wings summer camp in the Arctic

The opportunity to spend two wonderful weeks in Canada’s north running an On Eagle’s Wings (OEW) Bible Camp was a dream come true for our volunteer team. We didn't imagine it would be possible his summer! In March, when OEW Ministry Director Robin Abrol and Executive Director the Rev. Lesley Hand, came out from Edmonton to present to the Holy Trinity Anglican/Lutheran Church in Edson about the work of On Eagle’s Wings, particularly the Bible Camps held in summers prior to COVID, the Arctic was still closed to outsiders. But the adventure called to me (Laura Roome), Sheryl Dubois, and Beverly Kazoleas, and our team was born....

...but in the church parking lot!

Register as a seller, or just come to shop! This is an excellent way for those who live in apartments, don’t have garages, or don’t have enough stuff for a full garage sale to come together and have a sale while enjoying the company of friends. It's all happening on August 13, from 9:30 am to 1:30 pm. Those who’ve registered will pull their vehicle into a parking stall, grab a table and display their treasures! There is no set fee for registering, but a donation to the church (i.e. 10% of your sales) is greatly appreciated. POSTER

Ascension House Offering Affordable Student Accommodations

Ascension House Offering Affordable Student Accommodations

Ascension House is an intentional Christian community in the heart of the city, in the neighbourhood of Oliver. We are affiliated with the Anglican Parish of Christ Church and open to young people (18-23) who are drawn to the idea of living in community with other Christian young adults while going to school and living in Edmonton. We are situated close to Macewan and Norquest. We are a short bus ride to other educational institutions. Rent is $500 a month for a private room and includes utilities and other program costs. Why not walk with others on their faith journey for a year as you encourage one another and grow in faith together? Spots are still available for the fall of 2023. For more information, please email: admin@christchurchedm.ca .

Blood Donations Down in August

Blood Donations Down in August

at least partly due to changes in masking requirements

Changes to masking requirements at Canadian Blood Services donation sites have caused a downturn in the number of people making or keeping appointments to donate. See CBC article, August 6.

As of August 10, "Team Anglican" had reached 56% of this year's goal of 120 donations of blood and/or plasma. Thank you so much to those who donate regularly. If you are comfortable donating on-site, the need is still great. Find out if you're eligible to donate, then click here and enter our Partner ID: ANGL696986 to join the team. To make an appointment to donate blood, call: 1-888-236-6283 or visit Canadian Blood Services.

Building Community One Newsletter and Social Media Post at a Time

Building Community One Newsletter and Social Media Post at a Time

We at the Synod Office want to say 'thank you' to those in the Edmonton diocese family who've been sharing news from Synod Scene and other diocesan publications. Likewise, we try to share parish news and events as we hear about them. Working together to reach people both within and beyond our church communities makes good sense. We know that people need to hear a message many times before taking action. (You’ve likely heard of the Marketing Rule of 7.) We appreciate every effort to work together to cut through some of the noise.    Margaret and Shelly, Synod Office Communications

Phishing Scams

Phishing Scams

The Synod Office has heard about more instances of people in the diocese receiving emails that suggest they are from Bishop Steve, usually saying he needs their help or has something for them to do right away. These are emails designed to draw people in to a scam. There is nothing the diocese can do to stop these emails, but please remember the Bishop will never contact people in this manner. Also, a close look at the email address will show it is not from the Bishop. Never click on these emails. Delete them immediately.
