Finding Our WayGOAL #4: Fresh Expressions Bishop Stephen London has released the document Finding Our Way as a blueprint for guiding the Diocese of Edmonton into the future. It begins with the Gospel at the Center and includes five Principles and 12 Goals. This week, we highlight Goal 4: Fresh Expressions. We will encourage and support experiments in the 'how' of church that emphasise diverse forms of spirituality, creative sources of liturgy, different times and places of gathering, and more intimate community life. Watch for specific actions and milestones which will be developed in regard to this goal. |
St. Peter's Massive Mural Festival an Effort to Build a Safe, Inclusive CommunityCommunity festival to run September 3-11 A massive, outdoor event celebrating faith, art and community will take place September 3-11 at St. Peter’s Anglican Church, 11035-127 Street in Edmonton. The Rev. Heather Liddell, rector of St. Peter’s, says members have been seeking ways to let their surrounding community know they are “a safe and welcoming space” for all. While St. Peter’s is located just south of Edmonton’s busy 111th Avenue in the heart of the Westmount neighbourhood, the church building can be overshadowed by the condo complex next door. “People keep saying to us, ‘oh, there’s a church there?’” says Liddell.

Fringe Audiences and Volunteers Return to Holy Trinity, Old Strathcona
The grounds of the Edmonton International Fringe Festival are noticeably quieter this year after a long hiatus due to COVID, but a couple of blocks east of Gateway Boulevard, performers and patrons alike continue to line up for scones and shows in the beautiful gardens of Holy Trinity Anglican Church (HTAC). Holy Trinity has been a popular Fringe venue since the parish became a BYOV (Bring Your Own Venue) in the mid-late ’80s. The 2022 Fringe season features seven different shows, from a children’s musical to adult comedies to a Puccini opera. Every day but Sunday, Fringe audiences can see shows on the Sanctuary Stage and in the lower hall on the de Villars Jones LLP Stage until August 21. The parish’s reputation for hospitality and held-over performances is well-earned. An impressive roster of dedicated volunteers, many of whom have been greeting Fringers in the front of the house, the Green Room Tea Room, or in the “Klub Kunitz” (named for long-time volunteer coordinator Dwane Kunitz and family) Concession Tent. $5 Coffee Fundraiser for Medical Care Coverage in Buyé Diocese
In 2018, the Edmonton diocese began raising funds through parish coffee collections for women and children in need of medical care to purchase medical cards in our companion Diocese of Buyé. Last year, a total of $6,600 was raised by parishes, enabling 1,320 women to purchase $5-medical cards which cover 80 per cent of their medical costs for one year. Access to healthcare is otherwise out of reach for most people living in Burundi. Throughout the month of September, parishes are again encouraged to set out a separate collection basket dedicated to this fundraiser. With your help, people in Buyé will have access to the medical coverage they require but often can’t afford. The Rev. John Gee, our diocesan treasurer at the synod office, sends 100% of the donations collected from all parishes directly to the Diocese of Buyé. There are no administrative fees. Please use the attached documents to help promote this campaign in your parish. Thank you so much to those who donate regularly. If you are comfortable donating on-site, find out if you're eligible to donate, then click here and enter our Partner ID: ANGL696986 to join the team.
