Bishop Stephen London has released the document Finding Our Way as a blueprint for guiding the Diocese of Edmonton into the future. It begins with the Gospel at the Center and includes five Principles and 12 Goals. This week, we highlight Goal 5: Team Ministry.

We will explore with congregations and clergy the greater coordination of nearby parishes and the potential for regional, shared ministry teams as an alternative or supplement to the traditional parochial structure.   

Watch for specific actions and milestones which will be developed in regard to this goal.

Good Shepherd Anglican Church, 15495 Castle Downs Road NW, Edmonton, will host a Vacation Bible School from August 22 - 26. All children age 6 and up are invited. If you have finished Grade 7, you can sign up as a camp leader-in-training! Our five-day camp will be packed full of fun, faith and learning. Monday to Wednesday will be day camp, from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm, each day; on Thursday we are hosting a sleepover at the church, and our camp will come to a close Friday afternoon.

Summer 2022 has flown by and there are only two concerts to go in the Summer Concert Series offered free of charge by Christ Church, at 12116-102 Ave NW, Edmonton. Come by the gardens this Wednesday evening, at 7 pm, to hear piano and violin music. St. Margaret's rector and folk musician Tim Chesterton will close out the concert series on August 31. Concerts are about an hour in length. Chairs are provided but you are welcome to bring your own camp chair and/or blanket.

The Season “Celebration” begins on September 1, the World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation, and ends on October 4, the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of ecology beloved by many Christian denominations. In 2018, the Edmonton diocese began raising funds through parish coffee collections for women and children in need of medical care to purchase medical cards in our companion Diocese of Buyé. 

Last year, a total of $6,600 was raised by parishes, enabling 1,320 women to purchase $5-medical cards which cover 80 per cent of their medical costs for one year. Access to healthcare is otherwise out of reach for most people living in Burundi. 

Throughout the month of September, parishes are again encouraged to set out a separate collection basket dedicated to this fundraiser. With your help, people in Buyé will have access to the medical coverage they require but often can’t afford.  

The Rev. John Gee, our diocesan treasurer at the synod office, sends 100% of the donations collected from all parishes directly to the Diocese of Buyé. There are no administrative fees.

The Diocese of Edmonton Children’s Choir, supported by a "Say Yes! to Kids" grant from the Anglican Foundation of Canada, is launching this September!

The children's choir will provide opportunities for children and youth in grade 2 and up to learn music connected to the church’s worship to offer at church services and special liturgical events throughout the diocese.

The choir will be conducted by Laura Hawley, a music director with extensive experience leading children's choirs in the Anglican faith tradition and choral conducting.

There is no cost to join the choir which will rehearse on Wednesday evenings, 5-6 pm, at Christ Church, 12116 - 102 Ave, Edmonton.

Every year, the Interfaith Housing community gets together to discuss the work we've been doing together as people of many faiths. Housing and homelessness challenges are on the rise for so many of our neighbours. Join the Edmonton diocese as we celebrate the return of Fr. Michael Lapsley SSM to the diocese this September as part of our continued commitment to reconciliation.

Fr. Lapsley is the Canon for Healing and Reconciliation for the Diocese of Edmonton. He will work with local partners to facilitate the third Healing of Memories workshop in Edmonton. The local workshops have been designed for the Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities of Edmonton to be healers of one another; to reach a better understanding of ourselves, one another and the community we form.

Fr. Lapsley will offer a workshop, followed by facilitator training, followed by an evening public event on September 24. 

Ascension House is an intentional Christian community in the heart of the city, in the neighbourhood of Oliver. We are affiliated with the Anglican Parish of Christ Church and open to young people (18-23) who are drawn to the idea of living in community with other Christian young adults while going to school and living in Edmonton. Singer / songwriter Steve Bell will perform in concert September 23, at the St. Albert Catholic Parish Church, 7 St. Vital Avenue, St. Albert. The Network of Biblical Storytellers Canada will host a Teller's Retreat at King's Fold Retreat Centre west of Cochrane October 14-16, 2022. NBSC is "an affiliation of people who practise the art and discipline of telling Christian scripture by heart." This is a small retreat.
