Surprise Medal Awarded to Compassionate Leader
When Canon (lay) Barbara Burrows opened an email, seemingly from the office of Her Honour, the Honourable Salma Lakhani, Lieutenant-Governor of Alberta, naming her as a recipient of the King Charles III Coronation Medal for “dedicated service to Crown and country,” she thought it must be a hoax. “I forwarded the email to my kids,” she says. As it was, the email inviting Burrows to receive the King’s Coronation Medal was sincere. And the next day when Burrows mentioned it to Sarah Kemp, executive assistant to the Bishop at the Synod Office, her response was to “jump out of her chair, squeal and say, ‘Oh, you got it!?!?!’” For more infomation visit: http://edmonton.anglican.ca/news/surprise-medal-awarded-to-compassionate-leader

St. David's Children and Youth Organize to Help Babies
St. David’s children and youth worked together to decorate Edmonton's Food Bank collection bags with pictures of items needed for babies, such as diapers and formula. The bags also featured Bible verses reminding us of God’s mandate to care for others. These bags were distributed to the congregation. Over Advent and Christmas, we brought in boxes of diapers, cans of formula, wipes and other items that families might need to care for babies. The items collected filled three large food bank boxes! Those of us whose children are long grown were surprised at the cost of formula and disposable diapers. Church Admin CornerParish AGM Planning Hopefully, your initial budget planning was completed late last year. If not (or even if it was), now is the time to take a final look through the budget and get your Vestry's approval (if not done already). Once finalized, it can be added to the Annual Meeting report packet you are likely already compiling. If you haven’t set your annual meeting date yet, do it this week. As mentioned last week, you need to give at least two Sunday’s notice and the meeting needs to be held by the end of February, so time is of the essence. |

As we spend more time indoors, it is becoming more difficult to contain germs and protect vulnerable members of our communities. Please remember that a minor infection for one person can develop into a major sickness for someone else. If you are feeling unwell (ie. have a cough, runny nose, sore throat, chest congestion, fever...), please stay home.
