Pray for Repose of the Soul of the Rev. Joyce Mellor

Please pray for the repose of the soul of the Rev. Joyce Mellor, retired priest of the Edmonton diocese. Joyce was 81 years old, born March 28, 1944, in Montreal, Quebec.

Joyce had most recently served as an honorary assistant at St. Luke’s, Edmonton. 

Before being ordained a deacon (1994) and priest (1995) in the Athabasca diocese, Joyce had earned her PhD in Biochemistry from the University of Ottawa and served on the National Research Council – Department of Applied Chemistry.

She earned her M.Div. from Huron College, and early in her ministry, she served as rector of St. Bartholomew’s, Grimshaw, and Christ Church, Berwyn. 

Later on, she provided interim ministry to many rural and urban parishes in the Edmonton diocese, including in the communities of Ashmont, Bonnyville, Cold Lake, Devon, Edgerton, Edmonton, Fort Saskatchewan, Jasper, McLeod Valley, St. Paul, Vegreville, Wainwright and Westlock. 

Before retiring in 2012, Joyce had served as rector of St. Mary’s, Ponoka (an Ecumenical Shared Ministry with St. Peter’s, Bashaw and St. Pancras, Alix of the Calgary diocese), and St. Catherine’s, Edson.

The funeral service for Joyce Mellor will be held at St. Luke’s, Edmonton. Details to follow.

We entrust our sister Joyce to your mercy.
You loved her greatly in this life; 
Now that she is freed from all its cares,
Give her happiness and peace for ever. 
The old order has passed away;
Welcome her into paradise 
Where there will be no more sorrow,
No more weeping or pain,
But only peace and joy 
With Jesus, Your Son,
And the Holy Spirit,
For ever and ever,
