Please Pray for the Repose of the Soul of the Rev. Carol Canton

The Rev. Carol Canton died on Ash Wednesday, February 18, 2026, at the age of 87.

Rev. Carol was ordained an Anglican priest in 1985 in the Anglican Diocese of Montreal. She served several churches in Quebec before moving to our Diocese, where she served at St. Paul’s Anglican Church in Edmonton, then as Rector of St. Matthew’s Anglican Church in St. Albert, a position she held until retirement. She was involved in Cursillo and, with her husband, the late Rev. Ray Canton, was instrumental in bringing TEC (Together Encountering Christ) to the Diocese of Edmonton in the early 1990s.

All are invited to her funeral, which will be held on Saturday, March 7, 2026, at 2 pm (EST), at St. Matthew's Anglican Church in Ottawa, Ontario. It will also be livestreamed. Her obituary can be found here: the Rev. Carol Canton.

REVIVE begins April 25, 2026

The Diocese of Edmonton is once again offering the Revive program. Revive is a discipleship program offered in gratitude to active church members to help them grow in confidence as spiritual leaders.  The Revive program reflects the Inviting Witness and Purposeful Discipleship pillars of our strategic plan, which call for an empowered laity serving as equals alongside a collaborative and team-oriented clergy. It reflects our belief that all who are baptised are called to share in the mission of God through their unique ministries.

The 2026 Revive cohort will follow a hybrid model on Tuesday evenings under the leadership of the Rev. Andreas Sigrist. You may join in person at St. Matthias (6210 188 St NW, Edmonton, AB T5T 5T4) or online on Tuesday evenings. We are pleased to be offering this program free of charge. Register now!

newly-elected leaders

Your Parish Annual Meeting has likely happened in the past few weeks or is coming in the next little while. Did you/will you elect new vestry members or wardens?

Following an election, it is a great plan to schedule time in your next Vestry/Corporation meeting to allow your newly elected people to have space to answer questions about the work of the parish and to provide an overview of what is required for Vestry/Corporation members over the course of the year.

This is also an ideal time to present your newly elected members with their own printed copy of the Diocesan Constitution and Canons (even just pages 32-48 regarding Parish Government) and any policies they may need access to. To download the Constitution and Canons, please visit https://edmonton.anglican.ca/pages/canons-and-constitution.

L Is for Lifestyle: Christian Living that Doesn't Cost the Earth - Tuesdays March 10 and 17, 2026

A is for Activism, B is for Bananas, and C is for Creation: These are the opening three chapters of L is for Lifestyle: Christian Living That Doesn’t Cost the Earth. This book is a thoughtful, practical, and deeply biblical invitation to rethink how we live as Christians in a consumer-driven world. The author, Ruth Valerio, explores how small, intentional lifestyle choices—around food, money, possessions, and energy—can become acts of discipleship that honor both our neighbors and the planet.

This Lenten book study is for those looking for meaningful discussion about stewardship, justice, and faithful living. It is also for those who want to live more simply—not out of fear, but out of love for God and creation. Join us on Zoom at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 10 to cover letters A-M, and on Tuesday, March 17 to cover letters N-Z.

Spread the Word - Support Each Other and Our Ministry

Spread the Word - Support Each Other and Our Ministry

we are happy to help spread the word

Part of what unites us as a family of churches is the support we give one another and our ministries. We can do this by sharing our news and events (e.g., youth gatherings, parish fundraisers, worship services, community outreach, public lectures) here in the Synod Scene, the diocese's weekly e-newsletter. We have created a form to simplify this task. Click on the button below to upload a graphic or picture (horizontal / landscape orientation; 1500x784 px), and your brief news/event information. Submissions must be received by Tuesday at noon for inclusion in the current week's newsletter. Because the Synod Scene is public and posted to the diocesan website every week, please use parish (not personal) contact information in your submissions whenever possible. Have questions?
