Jesus, Justice & Empire

Jesus, Justice & Empire

a dialogue with Joash Thomas - Sunday, February 22, 2026

What if the way we've been taught to follow Jesus is missing something essential? What if there's more to the gospel than we've experienced - something that could revolutionize how we love our neighbours and serve our communities?

Drawing from his unique perspective as a public theologian, priest, and international speaker, the Rev. Joash P. Thomas shows how justice isn't just a 'social issue' - it's at the very heart of what it means to follow Christ.

Lent with Alongside Hope: Taking the Wild Paths of Peace

Lent with Alongside Hope: Taking the Wild Paths of Peace

exploring a path of peace amidst chaos, with Jesus as our guide

Sign up to receive Wild Paths of Peace, a Lenten resource from Alongside Hope:

Wild Paths of Peace, written by Martha Jarvis, explores the unexpected hope of peacemaking at time of conflict in the world and in our personal lives. As the Anglican Communion’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations. Jarvis works to create partnerships between churches and UN teams as they respond to conflict, climate change and forced movement of people. Jarvis has also facilitated church-led peacemaking in South Sudan and Mozambique. Throughout it all, she’s seen nothing that compares to the power of people coming back together after conflict, and ultimately, coming back to faith through Jesus.

This resource will be available for download, or subscribe to receive it as a free daily email message throughout Lent (beginning on Ash Wednesday, February 18, 2026).

Spread the Word - Support Each Other and Our Ministry

Spread the Word - Support Each Other and Our Ministry

we are happy to help spread the word

Part of what unites us as a family of churches is the support we give one another and our ministries. We can do this by sharing our news and events (e.g., youth gatherings, parish fundraisers, worship services, community outreach, public lectures) here in the Synod Scene, the diocese's weekly e-newsletter. We have created a form to simplify this task. Click on the button below to upload a graphic or picture (horizontal / landscape orientation; 1500x784 px), and your brief news/event information. Submissions must be received by Tuesday at noon for inclusion in the current week's newsletter. Because the Synod Scene is public and posted to the diocesan website every week, please use parish (not personal) contact information in your submissions whenever possible. Have questions? Email communications@edmonton.anglican.ca or call 780-439-7344
